Mark Taplin - Trust 02
I have chosen this poster because i have noticed a growing fondness of handmade type in the work that i notice. I think that mixing illustration and handmade type is the best looking Graphic Design, it is something that i would love to be able to do and influence in my work in the future.
Since gaining an MA from Saint Martins in ’98, Mark has become one of the most diverse and original media artists in London. Alongside his inimitable illustration he has directed several short films, created animation for Mother / MTV / Intro / VH1 / Playstation and worked with Abbey Road Studios on their DVDs and website. There is simply no mistaking Mark’s work and it is this which makes him so collectable and coveted by London’s top agencies and production companies.

Andy Potts
I love these two images because of the simplicity of them, the way that the intricut, carefully crafted type mixes with the same media as the images.
Andy Potts is one of the most creative illustrators i have noticed and has been recognised by a BAFTA nomination, an AOI award and the respect of just about every designer in the UK. His style is an original and very modern mix of photography, computer graphics, scanned textures and printing – which compliments his sense of humour and his uniquely intelligent approach to image making.

This peice was made by the same illustrator as the photo montage. It reminds me alot of Ralph Steadman's work towards the Gonzo period when 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' was created. It looks clever and i like the work, i think it is done on photoshop and doesnt look like there is much illustration invloved.
Fred Perry illustration (blanka.com)
This peice caught my eye because it made me laugh. It's not particulary clever and is produced on the computer, but i thought it was amusing.
POP ON POP OFF
These designs are so simple but the use of space and the composition are so effective. The type itself isnt fancy but it looks smart and contempory, which works really well. These designs are so simple that they catch your eye, which isnt ordinary to a normal design. Something that catches your eye is usually loud or extravogant. Thats why this will hopefully inspire me in later projects.
Recreation Creative Awards posters
These posters immedietly catch your eyes. They are for the creative award UK. They have communicated this effectively by having alot of flyers, postcards etc the shape of the UK or incorerating the shape of the UK into the design. These inspire me to create something different and away from the norm. The colours are amazing and the designs incorperate them really well.

Design UK posters
This peice caught my eye immedietly. It makes me want to go and do the same sort of work. Not creating posters through type, but through imagery. This image looks really effective, though it is very simple. It inspires me because it is different but it is so easy to recognise what it is, straight away you know it is about the UK.
