Kleenex Evaluation

1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

Me and Tom have mainly illustrated throughout the whole module. We really got to grips with digital illustration and took it to the full extent. I have learned how to set up lighting studios and that lighting peoples faces makes so much difference in what the final photograph looks like. I feel that I have learned these well and am happy with what I have achieved with the illustration over photography.

2. What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

I have really looked into hand drawn type a lot in this project. Partly because I love it and partly because I know I will be using it again in future. It is an expressive way of type and I feel that my research into it has informed mine and Toms final pieces as the hand rendered feel really works.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

I have seen that my organization skills have come on leaps and bounds. Before I was all over the place, but organization was a big part of this project for both me and Tom. So the way we structured and organized it was a big deal to me and it made working a lot easier and gave the final pieces a much more organized feel.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?

I did a lot of idea generation which I am pleased about, but once again I don’t think there is enough. I didn’t explore more ways of doing things and just rinsed the first idea dry.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

• Make sure all of my ideas that could work are developed and tested.
• Test other media types
• Make sure all of my ideas that could work are developed
• Keep files organized on the computer as well as printed/hand drawn development.
• Think about trying things other than paper based solutions

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:
(please indicate using an ‘x’)

5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor
1 2 3 4 5
Attendance x
Punctuality x

Sorry for the late delivery, Blogger saved it in drafts and I didn't know about it until I looked today.

Alive and Kickin'

A nice, quick design for a t-shirt. It would look nice screen printed because all the stitching and details would become more noticeable.

I'm going to stop using this type.

Biggie

The finished designs for the Biggie t-shirts for my friends. All being printed over Easter.

Who Needs Em'

A couple of quick designs for some hand screened t-shirts.The idea is for Leeds Fixed Gear, its a fixed gear bike and the 'who needs em' implies who needs brakes. Two colour.

Mike Perry

The Patterns Found in Space. An Exhibition by Mike Perry

Mike Perry

A designer from New York. I originally heard of him from the book 'Hand Job', which is a book about hand drawn type. He used a lot of hand drawn type and a lot of colour. I do like the type and image stuff as I think its what I would like to go into more.
These are some screen printed posters, I like them because they used opaque colours and its a nice effect.

Lonely Punks

Two guys from Leeds who started up a nice, small, simple and honest design front. I heard of them off a friend that runs www.fixedgearleeds.com. He knows them so maybe that will be a foot in the door for me. They use strong colours and graphics in their hand screen printed posters.
I will take strong influence and ideas from these designs when creating my screen prints, especially the artwork. The idea of hands making words is a strong one to me, the colour process and the way the art work is made will be a big part in my designs also.

LeDouxville (Jesse LeDoux)

Really cool, simple poster design. Based in New York. A small amount of other work, mainly posters. I love poster design with a passion and stuff like this is what I want to do. Bold, simple and fun.
The installation work in the middle is cool too. All hand painted.

Delecious Design League

Speedball screens and squeegees. The Delicious Design League made the packaging.

I am buying one when my loan comes.

Delicious Design League

All posters are hand screen printed on premises. I really want to get into doing some serious prints with a lot of colour. These guys use modern hand drawn ways and modern mechanical ways to achieve a beautiful finish.

Image Module Evaluation

BA (Hons.) GRAPHIC DESIGN – END OF MODULE SELF-EVALUATION Module Code – OUGD202 Module Title Design for Digital Media

1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

I have learned to storyboard a lot better than I could before, especially as I started to film with video, edit to music and use sound effectively. I have learned to go with my gut feeling and instead of doing something that I am completely comfortable with (screen printing) I should try new things (filming).

2. What approaches to generating work and solutions to problems have you developed and how have they helped?

Once again the only solution that I have learned is to storyboard well, so that when filming or editing starts I know exactly what I want, how quick I want it and where it needs to be shot from.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

I can’t see much strength in any of my work. Some of my visuals look good but don’t have a lot of meaning or thought behind them. I will keep on trying to improve my visuals throughout the course until the end.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how could you exploit these more fully?

I have learned that I put things to one side a bit. I put this whole project to one side and fell that it has suffered for it whilst I concentrated on other thongs. I will take this and learn to manage my time better and spread my workload evevenly.

5. Identify five things that you will do different next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
1) Time management
2) Organization
3) Work load
4) Sticking to initial ideas

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: (please indicate using an ‘x’) 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor

Attendance 5
Punctuality 5
Motivation 2
Commitment 2
Quantity of work produced 2
Quality of work produced 2
Contribution to the group 2

Dog Screen Prints

Here are some silkscreens I did. The two colours gave me the initial idea for the Brains screen prints.

Stickers / CD

The sticker for the top of the cd packaging and the top of the actual cd itself. Following the simple, clean illustration style and colour way.
