Mat Pringle

I love these set of nautical art prints by Mat Pringle. 'My Home Is The Sea' comes with three 10″ x 10″ silk-screens, he only has a tiny edition of 30 made.

Parra

Some new works by Parra. Some poster stuff fro bands and exhibitions, and some other stuff for Vans shoes. The one with the actual shoes on it is very 'un Parra' because of the outlines, but over all some cool stuff.

Need to start doing my own type, think I need to get me a scanner.

Ali Emre

Some image/type over photography. I love the way that the semi opaque colour of the shapes sits over the black and white photography.

PPD Evaluation

My portfolio up-to-date is as good as could be expected. I am not 100% pleased with it but don't think there will be a day I am. I would like to make my work more mature and less juvenile and create pieces with a lot more meaning and depth.
As a designer I want to expand on what my practice already entails. Instead of working purely wit image and not concentrating on type, I would like to combined the two and make type and image equal in the end results. I also want to start getting a little more complex with my silk-screen process, with larger, more intricate prints and more and more colours.

There are many designers that I like to follow such as The Lonely Punks. Originally from Leeds. Mike Perry, Steve Harrington, Alter design, Aesthetic Apparatus etc. These are all predominantly silk-screen based, poster based, print based designers/companies. This is pretty much what I'm all about, I hope that my work is recognised as print and I can maximise on the skills i already have. I will continue to follow websites, blogs and books as inspiration for my work.

Some if my work is juvenile and boring. Some of it has no meaning. I have grown with time management and organisation skills. If I can incorporate this with my final design aesthetic, it will give me the strength I need to create some really nice pieces of design work that are engaging.

I am going to look a lot more into type over the summer. Mainly hand-drawn type mixed with image. This is a big change for me and I cant wait for my skills in this area to develop over the summer. I think I will also invest in a scanner so that my illustrated type will become digital.
I will investigate again into silk-screening and print making in general. T-shirts, posters etc. I will carry on my own practice without a brief over the summer to keep the creative juices flowing.

My dissertation is going to be all about why contemporary designers persist in using manual, old silk-screening methods even though we live in an age of digital print. This will entail history behind print and interviews with contemporary design practices. I am extremely interested in silk-screening and it plays a large role in my practice, so this will benefit me greatly.
